Iron is an essential trace element for human nutrition. Iron deficiency represents the most widespread nutritional deficit in the world: about 25% of the world's population is subject, in fact, to iron deficiency. Even when this deficiency does not lead to overt anemia, it may have repercussions on the general state of health. Many individuals, including adolescents and pregnant and lactating women, are at risk of iron deficiency.
